  •   Some people may think that having some valuable food like abalones and shark fins can show others how wealthy they are. However, they are ignorant to the damages they have made to the marine lives or even the ecosystem. Even some people realize that over-exploitation of marine resources will lead to ecological and environmental problems, they do nothing to pay for the loss of the ecosystem.

Take shark fins as an example, the problem of over-fishing is extremely serious in the Meditteranean Sea. This region is known as the most dangerous place on Earth for sharks and rays according to the report published by the World Conservation Union (IUCN) on the 15thNovember, 2007. Some fishermen use improper ways to get the shark fins for retailing. They just simply use baits to attract the sharks. When the sharks come up, they just cut off their fins on their back and throw them back to the sea. However, fins help all fishes to balance and swim faster. Without fins, sharks are likely to sink and they cannot get the food they need to survive. It will be easy for them to die of starvation once their fins are being cut off. This shows that the consumption of shark fins by human beings are actually destroying the marine ecosystem.

Actually, over-exploitation of different kinds of resources, not only over-fishing, will bring problems to the future. For example, people do not use electrical appliances wisely, they are just wasting the world energy resources. Although there are many different types of renewable energy resources like the hydro-electric power(HEP), Nuclear Power, or even Wind Power, I still think that being environmentally friendly is the most effectively way to protect the Earth.

  • Child Labour

Children in less developed countries like Ethiopia and Africa are suffering from famine and poverty. They do not have enough food to eat and the problem of mal-nutrition is becoming more and more serious. Children do want to improve their living conditions by earning more money for their families. This give rise to some illegal traders, they make money by selling those poor children to other countries to work as labour.

Some irresponsible traders even pretend to be volunteers from those charitable organizations like Oxfam and UNICEF. They take the children from the Third World and try to use them to gain others?sympathy. They just use the children as a tool for money making and it is totally unbearable in this modern world. People are questing for fairness and, why the children in poor countries are being unfairly treated? As a child, should he have his own happy life and a memorable childhood?

In fact, parental love plays the most important role in a child growth and development. Children will not be happy without parental love and care. Some illegal traders will claim that they are just saving the children from hardships, do they ever think about the children? They only care about how much benefits they can get from selling a child but not the child feelings. I believe that nobody will agree with them if they think that selling children to other countries is a mighty ob?

Helping these poor children to escape from this needs the help from different people. World organizations, local government can do something to stop this kind of inhumane trade. First, world organizations can set up laws to prohibit the selling of children to other countries. For example, children are not allowed to go to other countries without their parents unless they have special permissions. This can avoid some illegal traders to take children away from their own countries. Secondly, police officers from different countries can cooperate together to eliminate such illegal criminal groups in order to protect children safety.

If strict laws and world organizations are willing to pay effort in saving children from those illegal traders?hands, children lives can be protected. Although we are living in Hong Kong, we should not only care about our own future. We should also think about those who are suffering from famine, poverty or even diseases as all of us are living in the same planet.

  • Chinese History

Few days ago, our Chief Executive, Mr. Donald Tsang wrongly used the Cultural Revolution in 1966 to describe the development of democracy in Hong Kong. After his utterances, many people criticized him about his ignorance to Chinese history. Mr. Tsang only apologized in writing without coming out to explain the situation. One question was raised from the society, ow much do the government know about Chinese history??

Actually, The Cultural Revolution in the People's Republic of China was a struggle for power within the Communist Party of China that manifested into wide-scale social, political, and economic chaos, which grew to include large sections of Chinese society and eventually brought the entire country to the brink of civil war. This is totally different from the current situation as what Hong Kong people ask for is democracy in form of universal suffrage. We are not aim at overthrowing the existing government and no sanguinary event has happened because of this. How can the government say that we are starting another ultural Revolution? Does it mean that the government think that democracy equals to revoltion or the government knows nothing about our Chinese history?

Being a Chinese, we should learn about our country history. Learning Chinese history can help ue to know about the bittering history of China in the past. They suffered from forgien attacks and many people has contributed to today success. China transformed from a backward, feudalist contry into a modern country with strong army, technology and even astronomy in these days. I believe that many people experienced hardship and paid much effort in the process of modernization in the country. We should not forget what they have done for China. Besides, being a Chinese national, we should learn from the past and respect heroes like Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Zho Enlai. They paid much effort in leading and transforming the country. We should know what they have done for China. That why, we should learn about Chinese history like some atriotic?students who study Chinese history in our class.

  • A tragedy

Few days ago, a mother committed suicide with her two children in Tin Shui Wai. This news has become a hot topic these days as many people think that what the governments do are definitely not enough for the poors. One of the government official, Mr. Cheung Kin Chung even said that, he government should be responsible for this tragedy.?/SPAN>

The father of these two children is still in hospital because of cancer and mental disorder. In my opinion, I think that the father and the government should be responsible for this tragic event. He always took money from the social subsides for gambling and did not care about his family. Children mother was in great pressure and she also suffered from mental disorder in the end. The father was so inconsiderate as he just focused on his bad habits without caring about his family. He made the situation even worse as he was just adding financial burden to the family.

However, the government should also be responsible for that. Yesterday news revealed that there are many millionaires in Hong Kong. More than 87000 owned more than at least a megabuck of properties and about 1330 people owned more than 2 hundred millions of properties. However, more than 1.33 millions of people belong to the low-income class. This reflected that the seriousness of the income gap problem. The government care about businessmen in Hong Kong more than those who are suffering from poverty. If the government can try to care more about those who have financial difficulties or complicated family background, this tragic event may not happen.

Finally, I hope the government can learn a lesson from this event and try to put more resources on helping this kind of families and try to avoid such tragedies.

  • Young parents

People tend to have babies when they are young, or I should say too young. Some girls even give birth to their children when they are 18 or even smaller. Although the Hong Kong Government encouraged people to have more babies last year, I think this should not happen on youngsters.

According to the research conducted by the government before, there is a sharp increase in child abuse in these years. A couple of days before, a pair of lovers of 16-year-old has had a baby. The girl gave birth to the baby and threw him away to a refuse station. They claimed that they found a baby but the police investigated and found out the truth. This taught us an important lesson that if we are unable to make a suitable choice at the beginning, we should think twice before we act. If we know that we cannot give our children a good and well-planned future, should we do something to avoid this?

Many young lovers only concern about their own needs and wants without considering others. For example, they just have sex whenever they want. They do not consider about problems that may arouse from doing that. What will they do if the girls get pregnant? Just simply kill him or give birth to him?

In my opinion, families and school authorities play two important roles in teaching youngsters. Family members, especially parents, can spend more time on understanding their students. Sometimes, parents claim that they know nothing about their children. However, do they ever think about how much time they have given to their children? Children may want to talk to their parents but most parents are busy with work. They cannot afford to spend much time on their children and this give rises to different kinds of problems. This also suggests the importance of communication between family members.

The school authorities can monitor students?behaviour and organize some talks for them. They are youngsters and they need to be educated by others. Talks can help them to understand how difficult will they be if they did something wrong. However, I think that the most important thing is that teenagers should be responsible for what they have done.
